The ABC is leading the way in using innovation to reach new audiences, said the broadcaster's managing director, Mark Scott, at the latest Meet the CEO event.

Mr Scott discussed how the ABC was harnessing new technology and spearheading the shift to multichannel, multiplatform digital broadcasting in Australia. The shift he said was changing what is broadcast, how it is broadcast and how audiences consume content.

He said the ABC was well placed to experiment and innovate, because it did not have the commercial pressures of advertising and could focus on increasing audience reach in new ways.

"The thing that has really changed is that people now see us as very innovative. We are trying to shake off the 'aunty' image. I don't think we are seen as old fashioned any more," he said.

For the first time Meet the CEO was streamed live through the Australian School of Business website. This allowed alumni from around Australia and the world to tune in live and ask questions via Twitter.

Mark Scott was interviewed by Narelle Hooper, editor of the Australian Financial Review's BOSS magazine.

Meet the CEO brings together Australian School of Business alumni, sponsors and donors, giving access to business leaders whose innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership are changing the business landscape.
