UNSW has scored the maximum five-star rating in seven key performance indicators in the Good Universities Guide 2015, the equal best result in the Group of Eight research-intensive universities.

For graduate outcomes – getting a job and starting salaries – UNSW rated in the top group. The University also achieved five-star ratings for student demand, research grants, research intensity, staff-student ratio, and staff qualifications.

This year saw UNSW go up one star in teaching quality, an achievement described by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Iain Martin as a “positive change in an overall very strong performance”.

UNSW received four stars for teaching, the highest of any G08 university.

Professor Martin said it was particularly pleasing that UNSW had again achieved five stars for graduate outcomes and starting salaries, with students highly sought after by employers.

“The result reflects UNSW’s position as a leading research-intensive and teaching university,” he said.

The ratings in this year’s Good Universities Guide are pared-back compared to previous years, with scores in nine categories no longer published. These include cultural diversity, positive outcomes and entry flexibility.

The Guide, released annually, provides detailed profiles of all Australian universities and institutions offering tertiary courses.
