A memorial service will be held today at UNSW for the University's longest serving Chancellor, the Hon Gordon Samuels, AC, who passed away in December 2007.

Gordon Samuels was Chancellor of UNSW from 1976 to 1994, and also Governor of NSW and a Judge of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.

The ceremony will be held today (Monday 25 February) at 5pm in the Sir John Clancy Auditorium at UNSW's Kensington campus.

Dr Jacqueline Samuels will be joined by the Chancellor, Mr David Gonski, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fred Hilmer, former Vice-Chancellors and UNSW Emeritus Professors John Niland and Mark Wainwright, and Mr Sascha Sarahov, past President of the UNSW Sports Association, who will speak about the invaluable contributions made by Gordon Samuels to UNSW and the wider community.

The NSW Governor, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO and her husband Sir Nicholas Shehadie, The Hon Bob Carr, and members of the UNSW Council will also be in attendance.

The Australia Ensemble, resident at UNSW, will perform.

Members of the public are welcome to attend. No RSVP is necessary.
