Professor Laura Poole-Warren has been appointed Dean of Graduate Research. Laura is currently based at the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering and is Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Engineering.

"Professor Poole-Warren is an outstanding researcher who has highly regarded leadership credentials in research and research training," said Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Les Field.

"Under her leadership, we are confident our graduate research profile will continue to move forward and build on existing strengths."

Professor Poole-Warren studied at UNSW - BSc(Hons) and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering - and has worked here since 1995.

She spent two years in the US with a biomedical company on product development and has also acted as a consultant to industry and government, primarily relating to pre-clinical biological performance evaluation of medical devices.

Her research activities are focused in the biomaterials and tissue engineering field with specific research interests in examining biomaterials-based approaches for achieving biologically active devices. She serves on the Editorial Board of Biomaterials, the leading international biomaterials journal and is a member of the Asian Biomaterials Federation Council.

Professor Poole-Warren will take up the position on 4 January 2010. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research Strategy) Professor Margaret Harding will continue in the role of Dean of Graduate Research until January.
