Para-cyclist and mechanical engineering student Alexandra Green is a new world champion, putting her on track for selection for the London Paralympics team.

Alex, 24, defeated Australian team mate Sue Powell to win the C4 pursuit at the UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Los Angeles.

It’s an impressive win as Green has only been cycling for two years after switching from rowing. She holds a Ben Lexen scholarship for both sports and in 2009 was named UNSW Female Athlete of the Year.

"It's pretty amazing and I didn't expect it that's for sure," she said. “Definitely I'm a pursuiter not a sprinter and the endurance events are where I want to perform so glad I could do that."
