Under a new agreement between UNSW and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) a selection of outstanding Chinese students will undertake PhDs at the University. The long-term aim of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is to encourage research collaboration with leading Chinese universities.

The MOU was signed at the International University Presidents' Conference held in Nanjing in December 2008. The event, which commemorated the 30th anniversary of China's education reform, was attended by more than 200 delegates from 24 international and 63 Chinese universities.

The agreement with UNSW is one of 22 MOUs signed by the Council with leading international research universities.

In 2008 UNSW enrolled 20 CSC scholarship students in PhD programs in six faculties: Engineering, Science, Medicine, Australian School of Business, Built Environment and the UNSW@ADFA campus in Canberra.

Further details about the University Presidents' Conference can be found at the CSC website.
