Banana plant

Biodegradable 'plastic' bags made out of banana plants sounds a bit...bananas, but a couple of UNSW researchers have found a way to do it, and it could solve two industrial waste problems in one.

The future of polymers in cancer drug delivery and the global shift in how we use the internet were the subjects of the latest in the 2017 UNSW Professorial Inaugural Lectures.

Associate Professor Cyrille Boyer from the School of Chemical Engineering is a finalist in the UNSW Eureka Prize for Scientific Research. Boyer has made major contributions to the field of polymer chemistry.

Cyrille Boyer, winner of the 2015 Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year, is mimicking nature to create functional polymers and next-generation nanomedicines to treat infectious diseases.

A team of international scientists has discovered there is something missing from a Nobel Prize winner’s theory on polymers.
