Award winning author David Malouf will discuss his new novel Ransom with Professor Bill Ashcroft at the UNSWriting Public Seminar at UNSW (Thursday 15 April).

Ransom takes us into the world of Homer's Iliad, retelling and reimagining its myths and stories. It recently won the Fiction prize at the 2010 Adelaide Festival Awards for Literature.

David Malouf's most acclaimed novels include Remembering Babylon (shortlisted for the Booker Prize and winner of the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award) and The Great World (winner of the Commonwealth Writers' and Miles Franklin Prizes). He also writes short stories, poetry, drama and libretti for operas.

Professor Bill Ashcroft is a founding exponent of post-colonial theory. His co-authored book The Empire Writes Back was the first to define this field, and his work is internationally acclaimed.

UNSWriting is presented by the School of English, Media and Performing and Arts in UNSW's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

David Malouf will be available to sign copies of his book.
