UNSW is proud to be an event partner of Sculpture by the Sea, with four COFA alumni exhibiting their works along Sydney’s iconic coastline.

COFA graduates Caroline Haswell, Francesca Mataraga, Simon McGrath and Margarita Sampson are four of 106 sculptors who made the final selection.

Mataraga's work  'a to b', is a site-specific sculpture based on an IKEA fabric. Using approximately 450 hardwood garden stakes the artist has re-created the striped pattern of the fabric, setting it against the dramatic landscape of the beach as a temporary linear structure that visitors can look at and walk through.

A Sydney-based artist, Mataraga is a 2013 Helen Lempriere Scholarship recipient which has allowed her to undertake travel-based study in Europe including visiting the galleries of Copenhagen, Sculpture by the Sea, Aarhus and the Venice Biennale.

COFA graduates have a successful history with Sculptures by the Sea.

Simon McGrath was an award winner in the 2011 Sculpture by the Sea securing the Sydney Water and Environment Prize for his giant sculpture of a set of taps, who left the tap running?

COFA graduate Charles Schneider won the Damon Courtenay Memorial Young Sculptor Prize for his crown-of-thorns wallpaper in 2010.

Organisers are expecting around 500,000 people to view the event, the world's largest free outdoor sculpture exhibition.

Sculpture by the Sea runs until 14 November along the Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk.
