UNSW is helping to build Australia's literary future - well beyond academic and student circles.

Nominations are being sought from distinguished writers for the University's Literary Fellowship to be taken up during 2008-2009.

The Fellowship, valued at $12,000, is awarded every two years to a writer in any field, who has a work in progress that would benefit from time at the University. The Fellowship lasts for a minimum of two months.

Award-winning playwright John Romeril was the most recent recipient of the prestigious Fellowship.

He is in good company, with other leading writers such as Linda Jaivin, Frank Moorehouse, Alex Buzo, John Derum, Oodgeroo Noonuccal (formerly Kath Walker), David Foster, Les Murray, Sue Woolfe, Kate Grenville and Mandy Sayer also previous recipients.

Nominations close on 28 February, 2008 and the award will be announced in April. The University's volunteer U Committee sponsors the UNSW Literary Fellowship.
