The UNSW Business School will bring together top entrepreneurs in Jakarta this week to share exclusive insights into the current and future state of business in Indonesia.

BusinessThink | Indonesia is a landmark public panel discussion with the theme 'Pro Business: Perspectives from Indonesian Government and Business Leaders'.

“This event launches in Indonesia through BusinessThink, our international event series and online business journal, which showcases leading expertise and business insights from across the globe. It will set in train links with Indonesia that will last well into the future,” says Professor Styles, Dean of UNSW Business School.

“Two-way engagement with Asia is a key part of UNSW Business School's strategy. We are actively committed to connecting key individuals and organisations, creating more dynamic alumni networks, and generating insightful business conversation that can inform our research and education at an international level with Asia," Professor Styles says.

Bapak Eddy Kusnadi Sariaatmadja, a UNSW almunus, will host the event.

UNSW President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Jacobs will deliver the welcome address, and Tim Harcourt, UNSW's J.W. Nevile Fellow in Economics, will be the panel moderator.

“Indonesia is a vital trade partner with Australia, and also a vital education partner," Mr Harcourt says."The country is also a much underrated economic partner. As well as big corporates, around 2,400 Australians businesses export to Indonesia and many large companies have received significant rates of return.

“Clearly, Indonesia is not only open for business, but through this panel event we will show it is very much pro-business.”

Indonesia is an emerging focus for the UNSW Business School.

The University has signed an MOU with one of the most prestigious universities in Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), to establish academic links and to promote academic and cultural exchanges.

The partnership has already produced an "articulation agreement" that will enable students of UGM to study for a second Master’s degree at UNSW.

UNSW has also hosted an "International Academic Exposure" study tour in collaboration with UGM.

And Indonesian Consul-General Mr Yayan GH Mulyana recently spoke to the 15 undergraduate students in the UNSW Global Business Practicum, a work and culture program in Jakarta, about the importance of engagement between the two countries in education and business, particularly among young people.

The Practicum, supported by funding from the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan, allows students to work alongside counterparts from BINUS University at five companies in a range of industries to tackle real world business challenges.
