The UNHCR’s Regional Representative and the Refugee Council of Australia will be part of a public panel discussion on the Syrian refugee crisis to be held tonight (Monday 14 September).

Thomas Albrecht from the UNHCR and the CEO of the Refugee Council of Australia, Paul Power, will join senior academics from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to discuss the crisis and its implications for the Middle East, Europe and Australia.

International refugee law expert Professor Jane McAdam and international relations specialist Dr Anthony Billingsley will be part of the panel discussion, hosted by UNSW’s Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law.

The public event follows Australia’s announcement it will permanently resettle 12,000 refugees from Syria and will contribute $44 million to supply almost a quarter of a million refugees with cash, food, water and blankets in Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan.
