A UNSW lecturer and a final-year student have scooped the pool in the academic categories of the Women in Law Awards, the most significant annual prizes recognising the country's best female legal talent.

UNSW Law has scooped the pool in the academic categories of the Women in Law Awards.
Dr Alexandra George won Academic of the Year and Jessica Provost was named Law Student of the Year at a gala dinner in Melbourne on Thursday night.
The awards, organised by Lawyers Weekly, are regarded as the most significant annual awards in recognising talent and achievement by women across all facets of the law in Australia.
UNSW Law was the only faculty with more than one finalist in any category. Dr Justine Rogers and Amelia Thorpe were among the finalists for Academic of the Year, while Anna Rienstra and Brigid McManus were in the running for Law Student of the Year.

Dr George is a Senior Lecturer with a focus on the philosophy of intellectual property law, and globalisation and intellectual property. She received a UNSW Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2013 and this year she was awarded a Pro Bono Award for her work for The Arts Law Centre of Australia.
Jessica Provost is a final-year student studying Criminology and Criminal Justice/Law. She works as a paralegal at Gordon & Barry Lawyers and also works with the Redfern Legal Centre.
Dean of Law Professor George Williams congratulated the faculty’s winners and finalists, noting that UNSW was represented more than any other university.
“UNSW Law is proud to have so many talented women among our academic staff and students. It is a great pleasure to us all to see this shine through at these important national awards,” Professor Williams said.
