NSW Police has advised that the general security threat at UNSW has been downgraded.

This is welcome news for the UNSW community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your cooperation and patience as we worked through this issue.

The University is operating business as usual today with classes running as normal.

As a precautionary measure, the increased police and security presence on and around campus will be maintained today. NSW Police work collaboratively with UNSW in providing routine patrols and a presence on campus as part of normal operations.

We have been in constant liaison with NSW Police since the anonymous threat to the safety of staff and students on the social media site 4chan was first reported on Monday morning. It was a general, not a specific or direct threat and investigations into its source continue.

The advice from police was for the University to continue to operate as normal. At present no further action has been proposed. I thank the NSW Police and the UNSW security services for their diligence in dealing with this issue.

As a general rule, staff and students should always be vigilant about security and report any suspicious individuals or activities, incidents or crime in progress to UNSW Security on 9385 6666.
