UNSW Bookshop has been named Campus Bookseller of the Year by the Australian Publishers Association for the third time in four years.

The award is presented annually based on criteria including excellence in ordering and stock policy, text book quality and sales staff as well as the most effective sell-through and marketing initiatives.

UNSW Bookshop Manager Mark Halliday believes the store’s outstanding track record with the award is due to a culture of collaboration among staff, many of whom are students at UNSW.

“To be considered the best means we have to get a lot of things right. This is a credit to everyone involved in the bookshop, whether working out the back or in front,” he said.

Kathy Bail, Chief Executive of UNSW Press, which manages the bookshop, also credits teamwork and customer service with the bookshop’s success.

“In a time of rapid change in the retail sector, the collaborative team in our Bookshop on the Kensington campus is attuned to the needs of the community and puts our customers first,” Bail said.

“Our independent bookshop is a friendly destination that offers a high level of service, selects great books and provides a wide range of educational content. A winning mix!”

UNSW Bookshop has a strong base of loyal customers drawn from university staff, students, alumni and members of the local community. It won the Campus Bookseller of the Year Award in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017 and was runner-up in 2015.

UNSW Bookshop, at the western end of the Quadrangle Building on the Kensington Campus, is open 9am-6pm Monday to Friday and 10am-2pm Saturday and Sunday.
