How can Australia help its doctors and researchers find the cures for many of our most daunting medical conditions? When it comes to curing the "incurable", is it enough to simply abide by evidence-based medicine and hope for a breakthrough?

Striking the balance between risk-taking and patient safety is the topic of a free public debate between three of Australia's best minds in medical practice and research on Tuesday, 12 October 2010.

Speakers are brain surgeon Dr Charlie Teo, schizophrenia expert Professor Cyndi Shannon Weickert, and burns specialist and former Australian of the Year Dr Fiona Wood. The forum will be moderated by Dr Wood.

Curing the Incurable is the final event in UNSW Medicine's 2010 Dean's Lecture Series.
