Learn to survive a zombie apocalypse this summer

Looking for something to do in the school holidays? Do you want to get up close and personal with some of the deadliest killers in Australia?  

This January, UNSW’s Museum of Human Disease is running a series of hands-on workshops related to all things zombie, including how to survive a zombie apocalypse!

As Australia’s only publicly accessible medical disease museum, you can come face-to-face with some of the goriest disease specimens likely to interest the most ghoulish zombie, while also learning how to avoid them.

Daily activities include:

-       Bandage wrapping, “brain” making and zombie disguise make-up stations

-       Lectures from experts on pandemics and superbugs

-       Virtual autopsy watching and build-your-own zombie activities   

The visit includes access to the Museum of Human Disease, which has more than 2000 disease specimens on display, as well as hands-on activities for adults and children looking at how to prevent a range of common and uncommon diseases.  

Other activities include animal dissection workshops, where you can take a look inside the real hearts, brains and other organs of sheep, cows and pigs.

“This series of activities is a fun way to learn about some serious diseases and their impact on the human body,” says Museum Director Derek Williamson.  

“While zombies might not be real, the science behind this event certainly is. It’s an enjoyable hands-on learning experience for both children and adults.”
