Tackling dementia

UNSW has won more grants than any other institution in the country, in a special round of funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

The University was awarded four of the 15 grants in NHMRC funding for dementia research.

The grants are part of the Government's response to the growing challenge of dementia in Australia.

UNSW researchers have been awarded more than $1.6 million in a second round of funding. A total of $9.1 million was announced by the Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot.

The UNSW projects are:

Professor of Psychogeriatrics, Henry Brodaty, has been appointed by the Minister to the national advisory group on dementia. The group is co-chaired by author and dementia carer advocate Ms Sue Pieters-Hawke and former Brisbane Lord Mayor Ms Sallyanne Atkinson.
