UNSW is throwing its impressive scholarly resources behind climate change while rolling out measures to make the University itself one of the world's most sustainable campuses. The work is outlined in a special "green" issue of Uniken.

This month the University announced a new $6 million Climate Change Research Centre, combining the formidable talents of Federation Fellow Professor Matthew England and Professor Andy Pitman, one of Australia's most respected climate scientists.

The pair are tackling one of the biggest unknown issues of recent decades - solving the mystery of why rainfall has declined so heavily in the country's heavily populated eastern coastline.

Water, energy, alpine security, wildlife conservation and the built environment are other areas in which eminent UNSW academics are being sought by governments and organisations keen to explore solutions for climate change.

Meanwhile, the University is walking its talk with measures to become one the most environmentally friendly campuses in the southern hemisphere.
