Largest ever team at University Games

More than 400 of UNSW's best athletes have converged on the Gold Coast to take part in the Australian University Games.

The team of 410 is the largest to have ever represented UNSW at the Games and, according to Helen Bryson from the UNSW Sports Association, it is also one of the best.

"We are expecting great things, particularly from our UNSW Lexcen Sports Scholars and Teams," she says.

Helen says top performers include Luane Rowe, who came third in the 1500m Australian short course Swimming Championships; George Tang, the No.2 ranked table tennis player in Australia; Sonya Chervonsky, who competed in judo at the Athens Olympics; Daniel Natusch, who won Gold in the 200m sprint and long jump at last year's Games, and David Matthews, who is the University's premier triathlete.

UNSW is also sending strong teams in men's and women's soccer, tennis, badminton, women's netball, men's and women's touch football, swimming, ultimate frisbee and tae kwon do.

The games run from 23 - 28 September. Results will be posted on the UNSW Sports website.
