Dean of UNSW Engineering Professor Graham Davies has won one of the UK's most prestigious engineering and science awards, the UK Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining's Platinum Medal.

Professor Davies received the award in recognition of his research contribution in nanotechnology and materials science and for his leadership in the UK Materials Foresight Initiative - an expert panel set up to identify key trends in future materials and advise the UK government and national research councils on areas of investment for future national economic benefit.

"This award is particularly significant for me as it recognises leadership in convincing the government and the research councils of the importance of nanotechnology for the UK economy," Professor Davies said.
