UNSW - the only higher education partner of the Australia China Business Council - will feature in seven VIP events at China's Shanghai World Expo.

With a theme of Better City, Better Living, the Shanghai event is expected to attract 70 million visitors between now and October.

The NSW Government is hosting VIP events on the better living theme featuring alumni and academics. They include Dr Shi Zhengrong of Suntech Power Ltd, Professor Veena Sahajwalla from Science, Professor Deo Prasad from Built Environment, Professor Joseph Lai from UNSW@ADFA and Professor Linlin Ge from Engineering. Academics will present on themes ranging from green building capabilities to clean energy and environmental management.

UNSW is the sole higher education partner and sponsor of the Australia China Business Council (ACBC), placing the university among an exclusive groups of industry giants such as Qantas, Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton.

ACBC is playing a pivotal role in the expo, giving Australian industry high visibility at the Australian Pavilion.

UNSW and the ACBC are working on other projects of strategic importance, including a trade delegation to China focussing on green technologies and green cities of the future.

The partnership was executed by Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) Jennie Lang who sits on the national board of the Australia China Business Council.

"It is a major coup to have UNSW represented on the national board alongside Qantas, BHP, Rio Tinto and the CEO of Austrade," she said.
