In December 2010, the Government announced the Convergence Review, a comprehensive examination of Australia's approach to the rules of the new environment of media and communications.

The launch of a new independent report, The Adaptive Moment: A Fresh Approach to Convergent Media in Australia, by Professor Catharine Lumby and Associate Professor Kate Crawford from UNSW's Journalism and Media Research Centre provides new foundations for the national debate.

The report traces the rise of convergent media and considers the risks and opportunities offered by the new media landscape. It also considers what role governments, industry and communities should play in media content governance and makes a number of recommendations relating to the regulation and management of convergent media.

The report will be launched by Professor Fred Hilmer AO, President and Vice-Chancellor of UNSW and former Chief Executive Officer, John Fairfax Holdings Limited.
