David Gonski has been reappointed as Chancellor of the University of New South Wales.

He was first elected to the role in 2005 for a four-year term. The University Council this week voted unanimously to reappoint Mr Gonski. His second term will run until July 31, 2013.

David Gonski is one of Australia's most prominent business leaders and philanthropists.

He is Chairman of Investec Bank (Australia) Limited, Coca-Cola Amatil Limited, ASX Limited and is a Director of the Westfield Group and Singapore Airlines. He is also Chairman of Sydney Grammar School and the National E-Health Transition Authority.

Mr Gonski has had a long association with UNSW and is the first alumnus (BComm, LLB) to be appointed to the role of Chancellor. He is also Chairman of the UNSW Foundation.

Born in 1953 in Cape Town, South Africa, he migrated to Australia with his family at the age of seven. Mr Gonski was appointed a Companion (AC) of the Order of Australia in 2007.
