A social justice advocate and an anti-violence campaigner and journalist from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences were recognised earlier this month for their outstanding contributions to improving the lives of women at the 2011 NSW Woman of the Year Awards.

Professor Eileen Baldry and PhD student Nina Funnell were named in the top 10 of the State's most inspirational women at this year's awards. Both finalists were recognised for their passion and commitment to improving the lives of women and for the leadership they provide as positive community role models across NSW.

The overall winner of the NSW Woman of the Year Awards, Barbra Asplet, is involved in Healing House, which provides culturally appropriate care to women and girls who have experienced violence and substance use.
