UNSW has been well represented in the 2010 Queens Birthday Honours list with a number of distinguished academics and alumni recognised.

Professor Gordon Parker and Professor Robert Sutherland of UNSW Medicine were named Officers (AO) in the General Division of the Order of Australia.

Executive Director of the Black Dog Institute, Professor Parker was honoured for distinguished service to psychiatry as a clinician and researcher.

Robert Sutherland, UNSW Professor and Director of the Cancer Research Program at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, was recognised for his international contribution to cancer research.

Medals (OAM) of the Order of Australia went to Bill Buckley, Academic Co-ordinator of UNSW's Nura Gili Indigenous Programs and Dr Anthony Hanks, visiting academic in the School of Optometry and Vision Science.

The University congratulates a number of alumni, visiting fellows and other friends and supporters of UNSW who were also named in the honours list.
