UNSW's annual Info Day sizzled this year, attracting a record number of prospective students on the hottest day of summer.

The campus was a sea of red bags as more than 8000 visitors enjoyed the sunshine and collected their free information kits.

Representatives from every department and faculty were present in the John Niland Scientia Building to advise both students and parents on degree options and other aspects of university life.

Head of Student Recruitment, Steve Sumter, said a particularly high calibre of students attended Info Day this year.

"Many students with high UAIs were still carefully considering their options. With such an unstable economy, many students are forgoing a gap year and securing their future now by selecting the most marketable degrees."

Vice-Chancellor Professor Fred Hilmer also hosted the annual High Achievers reception for high school leavers who achieved a UAI of 99.9 or above.

More than 60 of the stellar students from Sydney and Melbourne attended the reception where they met Faculty Deans who provided expert advice on program options.

"This year's attendees were particularly appreciative and enthusiastic and extremely interested in all the options UNSW can offer them - it was inspirational to see," said Sumter.
