Arc@UNSW is one of the first student organisations in Australia to launch its own iPhone Apps, with students playing a key role in their development.

Arc's Publications App gives UNSW students access to all of Arc's publications in their back pocket, so they can always be up-to-date with what's happening on campus, says Leigh Duggan, Arc Application Developer.

The technology was developed by a team of talented UNSW students contracted by Arc as part of its Student Facilitation Program, which aims to increase student engagement at all levels of the organisation.

"The idea of students building apps for students was very appealing to me, and it turned out to be a very rewarding experience.

"The most enriching part of creating this app was being involved in all aspects of a real-world project, not just software coding and development," says Leigh.

Arc has recently launched a second free app - the iDairy, developed in partnership with Milk Media.

"Using this app, students can build their own mobile diary around their interests, manage lectures and deadlines, connect with clubs and societies , find out about the latest events and through the GPS discount locator, find out about the best discounts at hand no matter where they are," says Brad Hannagan, Arc's CEO.
