UNSW has been be crowned 2016 champions at the Australian Snow Uni Games, beating traditional rivals Sydney and Melbourne to take home the trophy for the first time in 30 years.

The UNSW Arc Sport team of 35 students took out 10 gold medals, four silver and six bronze in the competition, which was held at Mount Buller in Victoria over five days from 30 August to 3 September.

Four UNSW students, all members of the elite athletes program, also took out overall awards in the individual competitions.

Greg Whitehead was named Men's Overall Snowboard Champion; Roanna Humphries took out Women's Overall Freestyle Ski Champion; Ashley Chapman-Davis was awarded Men's Overall Freestyle Ski Champion; and Zoe Spanos was awarded the Women's Overall Alpine Champion.

The Elite Athletes and Performers Support Program provides eligible current students with the necessary support to successfully integrate their academic life with their external sporting pursuits in the form of enrolment flexibility, cross-institutional study options and leave of absence for travel commitments.
