Students flock to science degrees at UNSW Sydney, as the University for the first time receives more first preferences than any other university in the state.
For the first time, UNSW Sydney has received more first preferences from all prospective students than any other university in NSW and the ACT.
UNSW also attracted the largest number of first preferences from school leavers, with the University the institution of choice for 8055 school leavers, up 9.5% from last year.
“We are the institution of choice in 2018 and we are really excited about welcoming this new cohort of students in the new year,” says Jonathon Strauss, Director, Future Students and Marketing, at UNSW.
“It is important that students order their preferences according to what they most want to do in time for the UAC’s upcoming offer round deadlines, and staff at the UNSW Enquiry Centre are here to help with that process over the days and weeks to come. We’re ready to answer questions on 1300 UNI NSW.”
The UAC December Round 2 deadline is midnight on Sunday, 17 December.
There was a surge in interest in science degrees at UNSW, with the number of first preferences from school leavers for Science rising almost 36% from last year.
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences also experienced strong interest, with first preferences from school leavers rising 21% on a year earlier.
Future students can find out today whether they have guaranteed entry to UNSW by using the clear and simple Guaranteed Entry calculator, or by visiting their personalised Guaranteed Entry webpage.
If they have a selection rank at or above the published figure, potential students will receive an offer to study at UNSW in the 2018 UAC Main Round if the degree in question is listed as their highest eligible preference. Check the Guaranteed Entry FAQs.
And for students who are not 100% sure about what to study, help is at hand during UNSW Info Day on Saturday, 16 December.
“The Advisory Centre should be your first stop at Info Day for information about everything from admission, degrees and dual degrees, to pathways, scholarships and bonus points,” Strauss says.

Free transport: Free buses from Eddy Ave at Central Station to campus and free shuttle buses between the Kensington and Paddington campus will run throughout the day. The shuttle bus stops are located outside the Post Office [F22] on the Kensington campus and at the Greens Rd entrance to the Paddington campus.
Free parking is also available in the Gate 11, Gate 14 and Western Campus Car Park. For drivers, please allow extra time for your journey due to light rail construction in the area.
