Winning Argument

A team of UNSW Law Students has won the prestigious Pictet International Humanitarian Law Competition.

The team, consisting of Renee Chartres, Tristan Garcia and Kathryn Neal, beat teams from Peru, Belgium, Switzerland, Singapore, South Africa and the UK in international finals of the competition which was held in El Escorial, Spain, from 13-21 April.

The Pictet Competition is an intensive week long competition in which panels of international jurists assess students on their performance in a range of role plays and simulations on complex issues of international humanitarian law.

Eighty-seven teams from around the world applied for entry into the competition this year with a record fifty-six being accepted to compete in the English, French and Spanish rounds. Winners of these rounds then progressed to the international final.

This is the second time in five years that UNSW has won the international finals and the third time in as many years it has been in the English-speaking final.
