The development of silicon solar cell technologies at UNSW’s Solar Industrial Research Facility is creating a ‘Southern Hemisphere version of Silicon Valley’, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten said.
Australian solar cell research has received a $29.2 million boost from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, and UNSW captured the lion’s share with 11 of the 22 projects.
A state-of-the-art solar cell pilot production line will be set up at UNSW under an agreement with one of the world's leading solar power industry suppliers, Roth & Rau AG.
