The UNSW Institute of Languages has been appointed as an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) testing centre by IELTS Australia.

The Institute has joined a global network of more than 300 test locations in 120 countries that test over 700,000 IELTS candidates in a year.

The recent changes to the General Skilled Migration Program, in conjunction with growing demand from students wishing to study in Australia, indicates the importance of the test and the necessity to ensure that candidates have timely access to test places.

The Institute's appointment as an IELTS testing centre is an acknowledgement of UNSW Global's reputation as a quality education provider and addresses the growing demand for IELTS tests which set the standard for English language testing today.

The appointment establishes UNSW Institute of Languages as the only language centre offering all three external language proficiency tests recognised by Australian institutions including IELTS, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFEL) and the Combined Universities Language Test (CULT), as well as providing numerous other tests for business English (Cambridge) and for corporate purposes (e.g. Qantas).

An experienced IELTS consultant is currently assisting with the establishment of the Institute's IELTS testing centre. The first tests will be conducted on 21 July 2007 and two test dates are already fully booked.

The IELTS test is a globally recognised English language proficiency assessment designed to assess the English language ability of international candidates. The test is recognised by close to 5,000 professional organisations, educational institutions and government agencies.
